Mail-in buyers versus selling locally

Both routes end with somebody inspecting your hardware and naming a price. The difference is where you are standing when it happens, and what you can do about it.

The part both routes share

Any buyer, us included, has to see the hardware before the offer is final. An estimate from a photo or a form is exactly that — an estimate — and it can move once the item is tested.

We are not going to pretend otherwise, because our own offer can change after the bench check. If a fault turns up, the offer reflects it. Saying anything else here would be the same trick we are describing.

So what actually differs

Not whether the price can be revised. Where you are, and what you can do, at the moment it is.

In person

You are present. Your online quote is confirmed in front of you, any fault is shown to you, and if you do not like the offer you pick your hardware up and leave with it. That takes about fifteen minutes.

By post

The hardware is already at their premises. A revised offer arrives by email, and declining it means arranging a return, waiting for it, and hoping it comes back in the condition it left.

That is the whole asymmetry. It is not about honesty on either side — it is about who is holding the hardware when the price is discussed.

The other differences worth knowing

  • Timing

Selling in person is one trip and payment the same day, cash or company check. Posting is a shipping window, an inspection queue, then a payment method with its own delay.

  • Shipping risk

Graphics cards and drives are damaged in transit more often than people expect, and working out whose fault it was afterwards is nobody's favourite conversation.

  • The data question

Posting a drive means it leaves your hands before it is erased. Here, the drive stays with the machine, erasure happens after the purchase is complete, and you can watch it on request.

  • Being able to ask

"Why is it that number?" gets a spoken answer in person and a support ticket by post.

When posting it is genuinely the better call

If you are nowhere near San Antonio, this page is academic and mail-in is your realistic option. Choose one that publishes its inspection criteria and its return policy before you ship, and photograph the item and the packed box.

We would rather say that than pretend a business in north San Antonio is useful to somebody in another state.

If you are in San Antonio

Call (210) 710-2020 or text a photo and you get a ballpark before you drive. We are at 11503 Jones Maltsberger Rd, north of the airport and south of Wurzbach Parkway — park at the front, straight down the hallway, Suite 1138.

Common questions

Can your offer change after I arrive?

It can, if the bench check finds something the description did not cover. The difference is that you are there, we show you the fault, and you can decline and take it home. That is the point of this page rather than a caveat to it.

Do you buy from outside San Antonio?

Yes. We buy from all of San Antonio and the surrounding area. Get a quote online or call, decide whether the drive is worth it, and bring it in. For business lots and office clearouts we collect on site.

Is my data safer selling locally?

It is more visible to you. The drive never leaves your possession until the sale is done, erasure happens afterwards, and you can watch it if you ask. How that works →

How fast do I get paid?

The same day, in cash or by company check, before you leave.

Ready when you are.

Get your quote now. Some are instant, the rest usually come back within two hours. Then walk in Tuesday to Saturday, no appointment, and leave with cash or a company check the same day. Too old to be worth buying? We recycle it free, so the trip is never wasted.
