The computer buyer for Alamo Heights

That old computer in the cupboard may have one part in it worth real cash, usually the graphics card. Get a quote, bring the lot in, and we pay for what is worth money and recycle the rest free. One trip, and nothing comes home.

Where we are

We are at 11503 Jones Maltsberger Rd, north of the airport, south of Wurzbach Parkway. The address gets you to the building. The bit people get wrong is the door.

Park at the front of the building, head straight down the hallway, and Suite 1138 is the last door on the right.

Tuesday to Saturday, 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM, no appointment needed. Directions and hours →

Old machine in the cupboard? Start here

The honest answer for a lot of household clear-outs is that the machine itself is worth little and one part inside it is worth something. That is worth knowing before you decide whether it is worth the trip.

  1. 01

The graphics card is usually the most valuable thing in the box

Often by a wide margin. Here is how to find out what yours is without opening anything.

  2. 02

    Processors, memory and drives

Hold value well past the point where the whole computer stops being worth selling.

  3. 03

The case, the fans and the power supply

Generally do not. Loose power supplies are not bought at all.

Not sure what is in there? Get a quote online if you know the model, or call (210) 710-2020 and text a photo. Either way you know what it is worth before you load it.

The part most shops leave out

If it turns out to be too old to be worth buying, bring it anyway. We recycle computer gear free at the same location, at no charge, including things we would not buy.

That is the whole reason to make one trip rather than none. The alternative for most of this equipment is a garage shelf for another three years, and nothing in a garage gets more valuable.

What happens to the data on it

A household machine has years of tax returns, photographs and saved passwords on it, and deleting the files does not remove them — the data stays on the drive until it is overwritten.

Every drive we buy is securely erased at no charge. Ask and you get a printed Certificate of Data Destruction before you leave. You can also keep the drive and sell the rest; the offer is lower without it, which is the trade rather than a penalty.

What the visit looks like

  1. We log what you brought — model, condition and serial — in front of you.
  2. We ask before anything is tested. Testing is done on our workshop benches, not in the showroom, and customers cannot come back there. About ten to fifteen minutes per item.
  3. We confirm your online quote. Say yes and you are paid that day in cash or by company check.

Bring a valid photo ID, 18 or over. We record the ID and the serial numbers on every purchase.

Common questions

Is a ten-year-old computer worth anything?

The machine, usually very little. A part inside it, sometimes a surprising amount — the graphics card most often. Get a quote online for the parts you can name, or call or text a photo, and you will know which of the two you have before you drive.

What if you do not want any of it?

We recycle it free, same visit, including items we would not buy. You do not leave with it.

Do you buy Apple computers?

No. No Apple products and no Chromebooks. We do buy Windows laptops, though not with cracked screens.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk in Tuesday to Saturday between 12:00 PM and 5:30 PM. We are closed Sunday and Monday.

Empty the cupboard. Get paid.

Get your quote now. Some are instant, the rest usually come back within two hours. Then walk in Tuesday to Saturday, no appointment, and leave with cash or a company check the same day. Too old to be worth buying? We recycle it free, so the trip is never wasted.
