How to find your motherboard model

One command tells you the make and model without opening the case — and if the machine is dead, the board tells you itself.

An ATX motherboard from above, socket and memory slots empty

The one-command method

  1. Press Windows + R, type msinfo32, press Enter.
  2. Read BaseBoard Manufacturer and BaseBoard Product.
  3. Together those give the exact board — for example "ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC." and "ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING".

Reading the board itself

The model is silkscreened onto the board, usually between the PCIe slots or near the memory. It is printed large enough to read with a torch through a side panel.

Bundle it — the single biggest lever

A bare motherboard sells as a spare. The same board with its processor and memory sells as a working platform, and a working platform is worth considerably more than the three parts loose.

If you still have the CPU and RAM that came out of it, bring all three. We will price them together and separately and show you both prices.

A missing I/O shield is a small deduction, not a dealbreaker — check the box if you still have it.

Common questions

Does the chipset change the value much?

More than most people expect. A B-series board is worth noticeably less than the X or Z equivalent on the same socket, because of the features enthusiasts pay for.

Do you buy boards that will not post?

We will look at them. Boards fail in ways that are sometimes repairable, and we will not know until it is on the bench. If it is genuinely dead we will say so and recycle it free.
