Where the model number is
On a sticker on the back of the panel, usually near the stand mount. You may need to detach the stand or tilt the screen forward to read it.
- The model number is the string you want — something like 27GL850-B or S2721DGF, not the brand name.
- The serial number sits beside it. Useful, but the model is what prices the display.
- The label also carries the manufacture date, which is often the quickest way to tell a five-year-old panel from a ten-year-old one.
Or read it from Windows
- Open Settings → System → Display.
- Scroll down and click Advanced display.
- Pick the screen from the dropdown. Windows shows the model, the native resolution and the refresh rate together.
That single screen answers three of the four questions below, which makes it the fastest route if the monitor is still plugged in.
The four things that set the price
Screen size is the one everyone mentions, and it is the least important of these.
- Resolution. 1080p, 1440p and 4K sit in genuinely different brackets.
- Refresh rate. 60 Hz against 144 Hz or higher is the single biggest divide in the used market.
- Panel type. IPS, VA, TN or OLED. This is almost never on the sticker — look the model number up, which is exactly why we ask for it.
- Condition. Dead pixels, backlight bleed, scratches, and whether the stand and cables are with it.
Why there is no instant quote for a display
There is no honest instant figure for a display. The specs that matter are not visible without the model number, and the faults that matter are not visible until the panel is lit.
So it is a custom quote. Send the model number and the size, add a photo, mention anything you already know is wrong with it, and you get a realistic quote by email, usually within 1–2 hours during business hours, never later than one business day, before you decide whether to make the trip.
Bring the stand and the cables if you have them. A monitor with no stand is harder to resell and the offer reflects it.
Common questions
The sticker is gone. Can you still quote it?
Bring it in, or send a photo of the front and back. Most panels can be identified from the bezel, ports and stand mount, though it takes longer than reading the label would have.
Do you buy monitors with dead pixels?
It depends on how many and where. That is a conversation, not a rule, so call and describe it.
Is an old 1080p office monitor worth bringing?
Often not on its own, and we would rather say so on the phone. If you are already coming in with other hardware, bring it — and if it turns out to be worth nothing, we recycle it free.
